Each of the drinks above (12 oz lager beer, 1 alcopop, 4 oz wine or 1oz hard liquor) is equal to one standard drink. This means that they all contain the same amount of alcohol.
What's an alcopop?
Alcopops are usually sweeter drinks like Smirnoff Ice, Mike's, and wine coolers. These drinks may not even taste like alcohol, making them easy to drink. This is one of the reasons they are generally marketed towards a younger population of drinkers.
One Standard Drink - NOT!
Some drinks might appear to be "one drink" but actually have a higher alcohol content. Drinks you should be aware of are:
Microbrews
These are beers brewed at smaller breweries, and sometimes in restaurants.
Malt Liquor
These beers will be labeled as a "malt liquor."
Mixed drinks
Drinks that contain multiple types of liquor or are non alcoholic drinks mixed with liquor, like Long Island Iced Tea's are actually equal to several standard drinks.
